Talbott Tidbits: Warren Buffett's 2 List Strategy

I'm always curious about how highly successful business people focus their time and energies. In the nonprofit world, I often think that if we thought of our time as a resource that should be allocated with laser focus toward things that moved the needle to fulfill our organization's mission, we'd all be better off! And, most importantly, so would our organizations.

Much as corporate leaders do, we'd be able to prioritize and allocate our time (as a resource) better! Apparently, Warren Buffett thinks so too. Here's a quick summary of Warren Buffett's 2 List Strategy to maximize our focus and master our priorities.

Three Steps:

  1. Write down your top 25 goals for the next year.

  2. Circle your top 5 goals.

  3. Put the circled ones on a list labeled LIST A and the uncircled ones on LIST B.

Throw LIST B away. Focus exclusively on LIST A!

Once all of the things on LIST A, and only then, repeat the process. Become a time minimalist and focus exclusively on things that are the most important.
